The childhood
period is considered an important stage during which the
individual personality is formed. For this reason, Dubai
Municipality has given childhood subject a special
attention, where a special library for children was
established in all public libraries. Regarding that the
children library is considered of the most important
institutions working on forming the child personality,
refining its talents, promoting its capabilities and
providing it with the ideal orientation.
Children
Library's Building
Children library was established in all public libraries.
The child's movable nature has been taken into account while
establishing this library. Therefore, a spacious room was
provided for helping the child to run, enjoy its time and
amusing itself. The building includes a reading hall; a hall
for activities; an audio-visual and computer hall.
Goals of children libraries:

Provide information sources
that suit the child needs, desires and inclinations.

Acquaint the child with his
library, show him how to use and maintain it along with
its sources.

Encourage the child to visit
the library and benefit from its services.

Develop the child's mental
capacities, languages and scientific and social skills.

Help the child to create
good habits and proper social principles such as
cooperation, altruism, friendship and respect of others.

Provide different
promotional items and means such as stories, plays,
films and games to spend the free time in doing
beneficial recreational activities.

For achieving the foregoing goals, a good and balanced
collection of easily accessible and illustrated information
resources that are appropriate to the child's nature, and
its capabilities and interests were provided. Among these
resources are the following:

references, dictionaries and lexicons.

outstanding collection of children's stories.

Children's
papers and magazines.

A collection
of the audio-visual materials.

Computer
software appropriate to children.
